Dreams Can Take You Up a Rocky Mountain

Poem for first 100 days of President Noynoy Aquino
The dreams I am talking here are not about those successions of images, ideas, emotions and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. They are about the expression and visualizing of solid thoughts, emotions, and ideas that signal about what you want and what you need for your physical life. They need physical works and efforts. They are there to help you mould your future. Dreams give you strength to face the natural world of your choice to reach success in life.
Thirty-Seven years ago, I visualized becoming an accountant and a writer. But the problem was – how to make them happen. I knew my parents could not afford to send me to school to finish those courses I had wished. However, I did not give up dreaming. In 1976, I was sixteen year old at that time and had just finished my elementary; I decided to leave my parents.
Contrary to the will of my parents I still left them and lived the way I can. Living away from them was not easy and productive. I had slept under pine trees, robustly standing around our town plaza. I had used scrap cardboards and old newspapers as my gasket and beddings. Sometimes I slept on the height of the tower of our town church, inside waiting shades and fish market along with other deserted children. I had become immune from the mosquitoes bites, salty smells and the freezing darkness. There were nights I was weeping, remembering my family but the homesickness for them did not change my decision.
I made friendship with those children who were also at my age. I mingled and associated with them like one family with the same fate. Thus, it became easier for me to be with them. The fish market was our source of living. Lifting of goods of market vendors in exchange of some money to be divided equally among us were exciting and memorable experience. We really enjoyed for doing it.
Until I labored to a construction group, located in front of Felipe Abrigo National Memorial School of Arts and Trades (FANMSAT) now known the Southern Samar National School of Arts and Trades (SSNSAT) in the town of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. At first I felt intense pain on my body, prickly fingers and feet but despite heavy and hard works I was happy to receive the 15 pesos for a day work.
There were nights I was anxious. I could not sleep in the barracks due to chronic fatigue and pain in my whole body. I wept and I wanted to go home but the advent of the future surpassed what I felt – especially when day time came - watching hundreds of young students entering the school gate, I pretended I was one of them carrying books and notebooks. The difficulty and fatigue from hard works eventually disappeared.
Six months later, the constructions of the five units of apartments were done. We moved to another project – a three-story building owned by a Chinese businessman. But before leaving the place, I stood up in front of FANMCAT with my promise that I shall return to study high school.
I was sixteen year old when I finished and received my Grade School Certificate, from Mayana Elementary School, Guiuan, Eastern Samar, Philippines in 1976. I started my high school in 1977 as self-supporting student and received my Secondary School Certificate from Southern Samar School of Arts and Trades, Guiuan, Eastern Samar, Philippines during the school year 1980-1981. Following that year, I took up One Year in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education from Southern Samar School of Arts and Trades, Guiuan, Eastern Samar, Philippines during the school years 1981-1982.
The following year I stopped my college education. I went to Manila to look for job but I was not lucky so I decided to go home to my home province, Samar. During the school year 1984 to 1985, I took up One Year in Bachelor of Science in Cooperative Management at the University of Eastern Philippines, Catarman, Northern Samar. Before the beginning of school years 1985-1986, I left Catarman with my school records and decided to study at Leyte Colleges, Tacloban City, Philippines. The college approved. All the units I had taken from the past years in college were credited. I was enrolled as a second year student in Bachelor of Science in Commerce Accounting. However, I did not finish my accountancy course. Just after the first semester I left for Manila again.
December 1986, I dreamed again to raise my own family. Marrying my wife was the best decision I ever made in my life. The love I felt for her was my strength. Now we have three children, all girls ages 22, 20 and 18 and we are now approaching our silver wedding anniversary. I married my wife with a ten peso bill on my wallet. I courted her for six days and on the 7th day, we were married. It happened in 1986. Mrs. Corazon C. Aquino was our new Philippine President.
On December 3, 1986, I started courting my wife. I visited her in the morning, lunchtime and in the evening for about six days. On December 8, 1986, I got her approval to marry me. Quickly as lightning, we scheduled our wedding the next day December 9, 1986. That same day, we brought our plan to her parents and it was approved. Also that same day, we contacted our chosen sponsors and we were advised to see them in the morning the next day at Trece, Martirez City Hall to get the marriage license and other documents needed for the civil wedding. On December 9, 1986 at around 9AM, all the necessary documents for the wedding were completed with the help of our sponsors. At around 10:30 AM we proceeded to the office of the judge located at the second floor of the Municipal City Hall.
Employed as an Accountant Analyst The ceremony was simple and very fast. It only took less than ten minutes after the judge declared, “I pronounce you Paul and you Imelda as husband and wife”. Following his declaration were the wishes of congratulations and the signing of our signatures on the documents with his signature and the signatures of our godparents.
Early 1994, I again had dreamed to go abroad. I was lucky though because I did not experience much difficulty in acquiring an overseas job. My uncle-in-law who at that time was a chief accountant of the company Kawasaki Helicopter Saudi Arabia – Finance Department helped me get my current job by recommending me to the administrator of the company. A Philippine based recruitment agency, FB Allan processed my papers and I was able to go out of the country as a documented OFW.
When I arrived in my current location on March 23, 1994, I was first employed as a janitor/laborer. That will be my work position for two years and nine months. The management must have noticed my hard work because I was promoted to be a Facility Records Clerk. After some time I was again promoted to be an Analyst/Bookkeeper and this would be my job for nine years and three months.
The promotion did not stop there. On May 8, 2006, I was assigned as Secretary to the Vice President, then later as an Analyst. At present, the company I am working for assigned me to manage of a new showroom that sells antiques and other home accessories. From being a mere janitor, I had gone a long way and one can say that things just get better and better for me.
Aside from working, I also devote some time for my other interests. While employed, I took up a creative writing course by mail with the Writer’s Bureau in Manchester London during the years 1999-2000. In 2001, I took up Journalism and short story writing course with the ICS, PA, USA by mail.

When you drink coffee some of the electrolytes, minerals and vitamins reserved in your body will be flushed together with the urine. And decrease the strength of your body immune system or your body doctor to fight diseases.

If you’re addicted coffee drinker and you consumed at least 10 glasses everyday – your body absorbed also 1,350 mg of caffeine. Caffeine is classified chemically as a drug. Some scientific studies found that the total caffeine contents in a glass of coffee are 135 mg.

Associated with those findings there are some good effects from drinking coffee such as: It brings back the good mood condition of a person. It helps protect your body and fights against diabetes. It helps relax your brain from overworks. It helps a person to stay awake for a longer time. It has anti-oxidants.

Although, there are also bad effects like: You become an addict coffee drinker because of the drug present on coffee. It destroys your sleep scheduled time. It helps increase the cholesterol of your body. It causes headache or severe migraine.

Coffee is not advisable with some conditions like: Pregnant women and women who are on their breast feedings. People with heart failures. People with high blood pressures. People with high cholesterol. People with kidney stone, stroke or blood clots. People with insomnia. And people who are allergic with coffee.

If a person is already addicted to drink coffee – some experts advice the following:

After drinking the coffee – he must follow up it by drinking more water. If he can afford – he should take some vitamins and minerals supplements as they can help replace those electrolytes, minerals and vitamins that were taken out from the body because of diuretic effects of coffee. It was also found that to drink coffee after meal has bad effects to your body blood sugar level.

Believe It or Not: Twitter is Not a Social Networking Site

Image representing Twitter as depicted in Crun...

Twitter has been used for direct communication among social groups and organizations, with the use of hash tags used at the end of a tweet #edchat, which means the communication will be viewed by all users who follow the topic which refers to an ongoing chat among educators.

Twitter has been used for making TV more interactive and social which is referred to as the virtual water cooler or social television. Twitter has been used also to encourage people to watch live TV events, such as the Oscars, the Super Bowl and the MTV Video Music Awards.

Twitter has been used in many different industries and scenarios. It has been used to organize protests, sometimes referred to as Twitter Revolutions that include the 2011 Egyptian protests, 2010–2011 Tunisian protests, 2009–2010 Iranian election protests, and 2009 Moldova civil unrest. The service has also been used in emergencies and political campaigning.

If we will analyze how twitter is used we will arrive a conclusion that they are all leading and connecting to social networking in any directions. But why Twitter is insisting that it is not a social networking website?

Twitter explains the following “Yes. Twitter facilitates social networking, but it’s not a social networking website. In fact, Twitter works quite differently from social networks: when you accept friend requests on social networks, it usually means you appear in that person’s network and they appear in yours. Following on Twitter is different, because instead of indicating a mutual relationship, following is a one-way action that means you want to receive information, in the form of tweets, from someone, company, or organization. If an account seems interesting, you can follow that account and see their updates in your time line.”

According to Wikipedia there are about approximately nearly 300 million registered Twitter users now and still increasing everyday. Everyday between 75 to 80 million tweets Twitter receives and spread them out to the recipients. And the first tweeter message published on March 21, 2006 was “just setting up my twttr“ from Dorsey.

Will Google Will Keep Its Promise? Maybe, Maybe Not

English: Google Logo officially released on Ma...

Image via Wikipedia

Writers and other contributors of the websites are the individual content creators who worked together feeding contents for the sites. Now Google has started spotting, tracking and indexing acknowledgment of contents created by the individual content creators with the websites they appear on through listing the author’s link.

If Google stressed its plan both the websites and the individual content creators will enjoy the following benefits:

  • An individual content creator will be given a place for his contents separately in search results.
  • If the author’s page rank result is commendable, it can add potential points to the websites he is writing as well as to his authorship.
  • This plan will help highlight authors and rank search results and allows better ranking of good stuff.
  • Effective to spot people that plagiarized other works and those websites who published works with out the author’s permission.
  • And this plan will inspire and suggest authors to write articles with good quality contents for Google crawlers to come and bring more traffic and views.

So start now practicing using your username or pen name too as tag for your articles as it can also help trace sites that published your works without your permission and the people plagiarizing your articles across the Internet. If Google intensified its plan indexing individual content creators, mostly of the online writers and other contributors will be happy to be included.

Your Voice is Your Weapon

Join HubPages

If you're writing at Hub Pages - follow its site policy. Duplicated text in your article can cause you to be kicked-off-out from the site. You're not given the credit even though you first published your article on their site before you revised it and offered it to other paying sites or before you shared it to your own blog site - your published article on their site will be turned off and marked it as unpublished.

On November 28, 2011, I published one article at HubPages entitled: Delicious an Appetizing Site. On the same day around 9PM, I made some revisions of the said article and offered it to Triond. I replaced the title to Pruelpo is Sharing a Short Review About Delicious, re wrote the summary and added more information on the article body particularly the history of Delicious site and Triond approved and published it. The next day, November 29, 2011, again I revised the article, replaced the title to Delicious for Storing, Sharing and Discovering Web Bookmarks, re wrote the summary and added some links of the samples of stacks I created on Delicious site and offered it to Wikinut. The site approved and published it. The article received a star.

This morning, I received an alert from HubPages Editor said, "Please review the automatically generated warning below, and correct the problem if possible. These warnings are only visible to you, the author. This Hub seems to contain text that also appears on another page and may be unpublished as a result. If you revise the content so that it is unique to this Hub, it will automatically be rechecked for duplication.

"The issue of duplicate content on HubPages is completely separate from issues of plagiarism or copyright. All that it means is that we found text very similar to what is contained in this Hub elsewhere on the Web. Promotional or affiliate links are strictly prohibited on Hubs identified as duplicate.

"Please do not contact us to say that this is your original content that is published on another site. However, if you believe that this content should not appear anywhere else on the Internet, please contact us. Include the URL or title of this Hub in your message."

As fast as lightning, I opened my HubPage account and went directly to the article and edited it. However, I did not change any text of the whole article because in my thought - if I change the text of the original article I published on that site, the originality of the article will become invalid so instead, I just added some important notes - I quoted them here said, "HubPages is the first to publish this article before I offered this to other sites including my blog site as per the attached links:

Pruelpo is Sharing a Short Review About Delicious | Webupon
Delicious for Storing, Sharing and Discovering Web Bookmarks
My Star Articles: Review About Delicious--an Awesome Bookmarking Site

"I am the original author of all the articles I published. I also kicked off thieves. I hate plagiarists and spammers too. In other times, when I write articles based from researched, I always mentioned the sources. Now, if this article will be the cause that Hub Pages will delete my hub account because the site has spotted some duplicated text in spite I confirmed that I am the original author and also testified that this article was first published at Hub Pages site, it is your right and I have no right to object it.

"Go ahead delete my account. No hurt feelings, I already saved all the articles I published here at my blog site http://pruelpostararticles.blogspot.com/." After adding some notes I resubmitted the article for consideration.

What came next, I received again an alert said, "HubPages now has a Google+ page. Add us to your circles to get insider tips, updates, and more!" For me this is evidence that HubPages already has broken its policy that said, "Promotional or affiliate links are strictly prohibited on Hubs."

History of Delicious

According to Wikipedia - Delicious was founded by Joshua Schachter in 2003 formerly del.icio.us and acquired by Yahoo in 2005, and by the end of 2008, the service garnered more than 5.3 million users and 180 million unique bookmarked URLs. Its headquarter is in Sunnyvale, California. The site was re-sold to AVOS Systems on April 27, 2011 and relaunched in a “back to beta” state on 27 September that year.

The precursor to Delicious was Muxway, a link blog that had grown out of a text file that Schachter maintained to keep track of links related to Memepool. In September 2003, Schachter released the first version of Delicious. In March 2005, he left his day job to work on Delicious full-time, and in April 2005 it received approximately $2 million in funding from investors including Union Square Ventures and Amazon.com.

Yahoo acquired Delicious on December 9, 2005. Various guesses suggest it was sold for somewhere between US$15 million and US$30 million. On December 16, 2010, an internal slide from a Yahoo meeting leaked, indicating that Delicious would be “sunsetted” in the future, which seemed to mean “shut down“. Later Yahoo clarified that they would be selling Delicious, not ending it. On April 27, 2011, Delicious announced the site was sold to Avos Systems, a company created by Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. Unknown to members, Yahoo operated the site until September 2011.

On September 27, 2011, Delicious launched its completely new version 3.0 design in beta. This came in as a surprise to many of its users, with many features being disabled, removed or temporarily unavailable. Avos removed the Delicious Support Forum and had advised users that communication with Avos should take place via email.

Descriptions Bring The Story Alive

Novel & Short Story Writer's Market

Image via Wikipedia

Descriptions provide color, shape, texture and tone. They help make the scenes real. Expressive writing is a powerful tool for adding atmosphere and excitement. It sucks the reader into the story, playing with his emotions. A good writer should have the ability to capture the essence, the spirit of what he is describing as well as just its physical appearance.

Descriptions are vital part of prose. Without knowing how the characters and settings look, we cannot visualize them. The tales become populated with vague, fuzzy people living in an indistinct land. It is difficult to see them clearly. Descriptions of people, era and locations paint in the fine detail help bring the story alive.

The secret of creating powerful and truthful descriptions is observation. A writer should train himself to look for the unusual. One careful observation can alter our perception of a character or a place. The longer the piece, the more descriptive passages you can have and the more involved they can be. This is particularly true of literary magazines tales or radio stories which depend very much on atmosphere and the slow build-up of tension.

In stories between 1,500 and 2,000 words the narrative should be free of unnecessary images. It needs sharpness, movement and pace. Only use a long description if you have a lot of information to put over. Aim for striking images with the minimum amount of words. Three-word descriptions are particularly powerful. Do not get too lyrical and gush with purple prose. Do not let descriptions bog down a story or complete for attention with the plot.

Use simple, easily understood words and direct, clear-cut images. Choose adjective and adverbs with care. Use them sparingly. Be subtle – make the description an unremarkable part of the fabric of the story. Do not tell events – show them happening. Use your descriptive powers to take your readers inside the hero’s head. Help them share their feelings. Do not give background information in huge dollops. This slows the story. Drip information like a leaky tap.

Describe places, people and events as they are seen through the main character’s eyes. Use all five senses. Make the readers feel the sensations the hero is experiencing. To inject excitement give your work a hurtling, breathless feel. Ensure that your sentences get shorter as the story builds to a dramatic climax. Do not fall into the trap of being too economical when describing a person. Give the readers all the information that is crucial.

Ensure that character backgrounds are as different as you can make them. The more stark the contrast between them the better. Many writers find it helps to base their characters on real people – but change a few details to stay out of trouble.

It is okay to use photographs of people or places as an aid to your imagination. Describe what you see. Give the readers a chance to get to know each character a little before introducing the next. Never bring in more than two at a time. Only include people who are going to be vital to the plot – those who have something to say for themselves.

The Breathe of a Modern Preacher

Mormon missionaries

Image via Wikipedia

At sixteen, Gerald was the picture of a healthy young energetic teen with his beautiful smiles, shouts and laughter. He loved seeing movies, courting ladies, splashing in the white beaches with friends though when he reached seventeen in 1994, a difficult task has changed his whole life.

He was the eldest son of a brood of seven. His parents were Roman Catholic. He was energetic, smart and friendly type of a person. He only finished his third year at high school. He was a loving son. He lived with his family in Santo Domingo, Ilocos Sur, Philippines.

During his training Gerald learned that the Mormon religion started 400 years A.D. when a Mormon who lived in the ancient America had compiled the writings of other prophets written on metal plates. When Prophet Mormon was dying, he passed on those plates to his son Moroni, who eventually became the messenger of God. Moroni kept those metal plates at the hill of Cumurah and later he passed away of old age.

On September 22, 1823 Prophet Moroni, was believed had resurrected and visited a young boy named Joseph Smith and told Joseph about the revelation of God, written on metal plates in an old Egyptian’s language. He guided Joseph to the place where he kept the Holy Writ and instructed Joseph to translate those writings to English language.

Joseph Smith took those plates but was confused. He had no idea what to do with them. He could not read and understand those writings but the Holy Spirit inspired him. With the help of Oliver Cowdery, his close friend, who was a teacher; Joseph started translating the Holy Scripture.

After many years in translating the Holy Writ that took place from 1827-1830, the whole writing of the Holy Scripture was prosperously done. Joseph Smith testified that the Mormons have important role in preserving those old writings. This had become the official Book of the Mormons, which was officially believed that it was another covenant of Jesus Christ.

And this book became the identity of each member of the Mormon Church, a sacred book, believed by Mormons to be an abridgment by a prophet (Mormon) of a record of certain ancient people in America, written on metal plates. This religion has boosted in America and exists on these days. And it is estimated that there are about more than 20 million members around the world with more than 65,000 evangelists. And in the Philippines there are about more than 400,000 members recorded in 1999 from the year it started in 1951.

“With the newfound church, I devotedly spent most of my time with our prayer services but the fact was, it made me sick for a while: no more good times with my young friends added that my family had opposed my decision though it did not alter my willingness. I willingly served my newfound church and religion,” he said.

All Mormon believers as stated in the Book of Mormons must believe

  • in God, as the Eternal Father, His Son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost;
  • that man will be punished for his sin and not for Adam’s transgression;
  • that through the atonement of Christ, all mankind will be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel (Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Repentance, Baptism and laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost);
  • that a follower of this church must believe in prophecy, revelation, healing, interpretation of things and so forth;
  • that the Bible is to be the word of God, as far as it is translated correctly and the Book of Mormons is also the word of God;
  • that God has revealed all that he does now revealed and He will reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God, that the gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the 12 tribes and the new Jerusalem will be built with glory;
  • that the privilege of worshipping to our Almighty God is according to dictates of our conscience and claimed others to do the same privilege of worshipping (how, where, or what they may);
  • that a believer must believe in being subject to Kings, Rulers, Presidents as well as to the Magistrates in obeying, honoring and sustaining the law; that a believer must be honest, true, chaste, benevolent and upright.

“For knowing this creed, I joined the mission wholeheartedly. On July 08, 1995, I received the approval from Honorable Gordon B. Hinckley, the over all president of the Mormon Church, USA for missionary mission through the branch president in Manila to be assigned in Leyte and Samar, Philippines.

“On September 04, 1995, I entered to the Missionary Training Center in Manila. There, I was taught on how to communicate people effectively, how to response the people’s inquisitions. I was also taught to become spiritually, emotionally and mentally fit and I was advised to read the book of Mormons from cover to cover.

“It took me 16 days training before I left for Tacloban, Leyte with other four companions to serve my two-year mission,” he said.

Tacloban is a seaport on NE Leyte, in Central Philippines. It is a prosperous City, peaceful and beautiful. The people are hospitable. The place was totally different from Gerald’s home province. But it did not diminish his willingness to serve his mission. He studied the condition of the place, the life style of the people including their local language. He was prepared with weapons: the Holy Scripture and his Faith. He started his preaching career at Capoocan, Leyte

“My first week in Leyte was really difficult. I’m not familiar of their language but I worked hard. I made friends with the people. And I succeeded. There were many people have joined the Mormon Church. I was happy to see hundred of townsfolks accepted the words of God. It’s a successful endeavor. I proudly reported it to our Headquarters’ office in Manila,” he said proudly.

As recorded in his journal, there were about eleven areas where his courage and devotion to preach the Gospel have pondered.

  • In Capoocan, Leyte I stayed two months
  • In Allen, Samar one month
  • Merida and Ormoc City three months
  • Catbalogan, Samar one and one half month
  • Baybay, Leyte two weeks
  • Calbayog City, one and one half month
  • Dagami, Leyte four months
  • Tanuan, Leyte one month
  • Burauen, Leyte four months
  • Macrohon and Maasin Leyte three months
  • and in Hilongos, Hindang, Leyte one month of preaching

“It was really difficult to handle the job. I had to preach inside bus, food houses, waiting shades, at the markets where most people gathered and as well house-to-house preaching,” he said.

On the second year of his mission he was 19year old. He became the Zone leader. One of his duties: visiting newly converted brothers and sisters and lead the prayer meeting. At that time he met an accident that he couldn’t forget.

He said, “It was late in the evening when suddenly six men armed with bolos and pointed knives surged from nowhere and surrounded us on the road where we were walking on. We spotted them drunk. They attacked us. We were not equipped with weapons to fight back. What we have in our hands was the Holy Scriptures. We prayed to God to save us. Miraculously, we were left by them unconscious lying down on the ground.

“Next morning our elder brothers found us unharmed. And I remembered the testimony of Prophet Joseph Smith said, ‘No unhallowed hands can stop the work from progressing. Persecution may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calamities may defame but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly and independent, until the plan of God passes and shall be accomplished and the great Divinity shall see that the work is done.’

“There was a time I blamed myself too because I ignored the whisper of the Holy Ghost, directing me what to do. I was the zone leader at that time and there was a seminar and other activities to be attended by all of us – zone leaders. My companion and I have reported to our mission office to get cash supports for us zone leaders.

“My companion suggested that he was the one to keep those stuffs. He placed them in his bag and decided to leave them to the personnel in the office and then we proceeded to attend the seminar but inside me opposed his decision. I wanted to bring those stuffs with us though I did not insist it to him. After the seminar we went back to our mission office, took our stuffs and went home. When we got home my companion was shocked after he found out that two of the envelopes were lost.

“How often I was grateful too because I followed the spirit’s instructions. Like what happened to one of our councilors for elders forum, who suffered from the severe infection of his wounded leg and eventually died. I was the ward bishop at that time. We, the members of bishop council visited brother Tabuso in his home. Brother Tabuso was lying in his bed, pale, weak and almost dying.

“It was a Sunday afternoon. We gave him our emotional supports to ease his pains. After our conversation, we decided to leave the house but suddenly I suggested that brother Tabuso should be given our priesthood blessing but neither of us brought the anointing oil, though we still gave him our priesthood blessing. The next morning we were informed that brother Tabuso died that night. I realized then he was blessed. He received the most important blessing in his life – the blessing of the priesthood. And I was grateful too, I listened the Spirit’s whisper.”

During those periods of his preaching career Gerald learned many things such as, to retain faith, humility, charity, righteousness, prayers and love. He said, “All these virtues are factors to become Good Samaritan.”

After finishing his two-year mission he went back to his home province and there he became the ward councilor. In 1998 he married. He said, “This woman is a blessing from our Almighty God. We vowed to each other to be together ’til eternity. I promised to myself to become a responsible husband to my wife and a responsible father to my future kids.”

When the former ward bishop had finished his term in November 2000, Gerald occupied the seat for that position. One of his major responsibilities was to settle disputes equally among its members. But he gave up his position for good.

“When I decided to work abroad I carefully thought about it for a hundred times and it is for my family, to support them for a better life in the future. I am also aware to the condition of our country, which is having a hard time. Jobs are hard to come by,” he said.

In Saudi Arabia, Gerald and other Mormon members are having a weekly gathering at the US Embassy.

“It is important to open our ears, hearts and our minds to hear the call of the Spirit and with often communication with our Creator. We should be encouraged and continue restudying and rereading our Bible because every page of it lays the Spirit of God, to guide us to the rightpath, to inspire us to live in peace, hope and happiness and help to strengthening our faith on the Lord Jesus, our church and religion, wherever we may be,” he said smiling.

How to Avail Credit Card in Saudi Arabia

Credit cards

Image via Wikipedia

For an expat, to apply credit card in the Kingdom is not really a hard job but it takes time to get the needed documents. First, he has to get the approval of his employer about his plan to avail a credit card. If approved he will now request his employer for the certificate or an endorsement letter regarding his monthly pay. If his employer approved his request on the spot, the needed documents will be released immediately with the company and KSA Chamber of Commerce seal stamps but if not, he has to wait when his boss is available and comfortable to approve his appeal. Sometimes it takes weeks and months to wait.

What is Iqama? This is an Arabic word for Residence Permit. It is the most important document that an expat in Saudi Arabia should bring with him every now and then. It justifies him that he is not an alien and he is legally working with the company that hired him in the Kingdom. It is an Identification card that caters all the information about him. It is needed for any imaginable transactions that he will transact inside the Kingdom. Without this there will be no transaction to happen between him and the bank.

Why Passport is needed? The bank will need it to record the following:

  • His country of origin
  • His nationality
  • His name and other information found in the passport

The correct and complete names are important for the bank. If his name written on his Iqama is not the same what was written on his passport, it could be the reason for rejection. Bank needs the passport for comparison with the certificate of his monthly pay to help correct the error.

How important is the endorsement letter of his monthly pay? Through his monthly pay, the bank will determine if he will qualify to get a credit card. Aside from it, the bank will record the following important information such as:

  • The justification of the company or employer that the person is his legal employee and the name written on his Iqama and the name written on his Passport is the same person.
  • The number of years that the person has been working with the company and his work assignment.
  • The location address, contact numbers of the company/employer and the employee.
  • The total amount of the person’s monthly basic salary, monthly food allowance, monthly travel allowance, monthly housing allowance and other allowances.

When the applicant has already completed all the necessary documents, he will now see the bank and fill up the application form completely with his best choice option such as: unlimited credit or limited credit and submit it with the copies of the documents together with the original documents as the bank needs them for comparison. Usually, the applicant will wait at least ten to fifteen days before he will receive his credit card with important instructions, agreements and some confidential policies of the bank. Sometimes it takes 30 days or more to wait.

Credit cards are convenient and can also save you. Using credit card is a very convenient way to pay for your purchases – if you have the discipline to stay within budget. You need not to carry cash all the time and you get to keep a good record of your expenses. However, you must always keep the copy of your signed slip or the proof of payment each time you use it to keep track of how much you have already charged it. Always pay the full amount of the bank statement every month. If you do it there will be no interest charge. This is using the credit card as a simple debit card.
